I love planning getaways around the places we’ve seen in our favorite movies, and I still have a few on my list that I can’t wait to explore. While these film-inspired stops are incredible, it’s important to note—they’re not usually enough to fill an entire vacation. These film-inspired stops are the perfect centerpiece of a trip, but what makes them truly special is combining them with the history, nature, and culture of the surrounding area. That’s where I come in: I can help you pair them with nearby attractions, tours, and activities so your trip feels complete.

Dirty Dancing Lodge & Experience – Mountain Lake Lodge, Virginia
Fans of Dirty Dancing can relive the magic at Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia, where much of the film was shot. The lodge offers immersive weekends with dance lessons, scavenger hunts, and themed activities that recreate the Kellerman’s resort vibe. Imagine carrying a watermelon (literally) and ending the evening with your very own “Time of My Life” dance.
Other things to enjoy nearby include hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, exploring Virginia wine country, and visiting small historic towns.

Mystic, Connecticut – Mystic Pizza
Who could resist a slice of movie history served piping hot? Mystic, Connecticut is home to the real-life Mystic Pizza, the setting that inspired the 1988 film starring Julia Roberts. Beyond grabbing a pizza, the town itself is full of New England charm, with a seaport, aquarium, and historic streets that bring that coastal movie magic to life.
Nearby you can visit the Mystic Seaport Museum, Mystic Aquarium, charming coastal shops, and take scenic boat tours.

Martha’s Vineyard – Jaws Tour
One of my biggest travel regrets is missing the 50th anniversary festivities of Jaws this summer. But the good news is that Martha’s Vineyard, where the movie was filmed, still offers the chance to step right into Amity Island. The island has guided tours that showcase filming locations—from Chief Brody’s house to the iconic beach scenes. Even without the anniversary celebrations, it’s a thrilling way to walk in the footsteps of Spielberg’s masterpiece.
Beyond Jaws, you can enjoy lighthouses, biking trails, local seafood, beaches, and quaint New England villages.

Practical Magic Festival – Washington State
Every fall, the town of Coupeville on Whidbey Island, Washington transforms into a magical celebration of all things Practical Magic. Fans gather to celebrate the beloved 1998 film with tours, themed events, and lots of witchy fun. Picture strolling through the streets where Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman filmed scenes, surrounded by fellow fans.
Outside the festival, you can explore Whidbey Island, visit Deception Pass, enjoy whale-watching, or take the ferry to Seattle for a mix of city fun and coastal charm.
